GENERATORS, IT'S ALL WE DO

Briggs & Stratton has been building reliable small engines in America for more than a century. Today their name is most at home on portable generators - the kind of units built for tailgating, jobsites, RVs, and short-term emergency power. At GenCo Generators, we want to be straight with you about what Briggs & Stratton does well and where a different solution may serve you better.

We Are Not a Briggs & Stratton Premier Standby Dealer

Honesty first. GenCo Generators specializes in whole-home standby generators. Our flagship brands are Generac (where we are a Premier Dealer) and Kohler (authorized installer). We are not a Briggs & Stratton Premier standby dealer - so if you are looking for a whole-home Briggs & Stratton standby installation, we will point you toward a Generac Guardian Series unit instead, because that is what we install, support, and warranty every day.

Where Briggs & Stratton Portables Shine

Briggs & Stratton portable generators are a solid choice for specific use cases:

  • Tailgating and outdoor events - power a TV, grill, lighting, and speakers on game day.
  • Jobsite power - run saws, compressors, and lights on a remodel or construction site.
  • RV and camping trips - maintain comfort off-grid with a compact, movable unit.
  • Short-duration home emergency backup - keep a refrigerator, a few lights, and a window AC running through a brief outage.

Briggs & Stratton portables typically deliver 3,000W to 10,000W, run on gasoline, and require manual startup and refueling. Many homeowners keep one in the garage for peace of mind during short outages.

When a Portable Is NOT the Right Answer

If you live along the Florida or Georgia coast and your power goes out for days during hurricane season, a portable generator is a bandage, not a solution. The honest limitations:

  • You have to be home to run it - your fridge spoils while you evacuate.
  • You cannot run central AC in Florida humidity on a typical 5,000W to 7,000W portable.
  • Gasoline storage and availability become real problems during storm emergencies.
  • Carbon monoxide is a genuine hazard when portables are placed incorrectly.
  • Manual startup in driving rain is no one's idea of safety.

The GenCo Recommendation for Whole-Home Coverage

If you want true whole-home backup - automatic startup within seconds of an outage, natural gas or liquid propane fuel, AC and well pump capacity, and round-the-clock peace of mind - we install the Generac Guardian Series (22 kW, 24 kW, and 26 kW) with a 7-year bumper-to-bumper warranty promotion currently available. We also install Kohler standby units with 10-year warranty options.

Service and Repair on Existing Briggs & Stratton Units

Already own a Briggs & Stratton portable or older standby unit? While we do not sell new Briggs standby installations, our service team can assist with general troubleshooting and electrical-side support. For warranty service, we recommend contacting Briggs & Stratton directly through an authorized dealer. For general generator repairs and electrical panel work, we are here to help.
