GENERATORS, IT'S ALL WE DO

What happens during my free in-home generator assessment?

During your free in-home generator assessment, GenCo Generators performs a complete property review so we can recommend the right standby generator for your home, your electrical load, and your installation requirements. We walk the property with you, discuss your expectations, review preferred generator placement, and explain code requirements, setbacks, fuel access, flood zone considerations, and any installation restrictions that may apply.

We also perform a proper load calculation instead of guessing based on square footage or a quick look at the panel. From there, our team prepares clear good, better, and best options so you can compare solutions and choose what makes the most sense for your home. Our process is educational, professional, and never pushy.

How long does it take to install a whole-home generator?

Once permits, approvals, and scheduling are complete, many residential standby generator installations can be completed in one day. GenCo Generators is a fully turnkey generator installation company, which means our licensed team can handle the pad, gas, electrical, transfer switch, startup, and testing without sending you to multiple contractors.

Because GenCo is licensed for both gas and electrical work, we are able to keep the process efficient, organized, and code-compliant from start to finish. Learn more about our generator installation process.

What happens between signing the contract and installation day?

After your contract is signed, GenCo begins preparing your generator installation project. Our team gathers the information needed for permitting, installation planning, equipment scheduling, utility coordination, and any required documentation.

You may also receive a Notice of Commencement so we can file permits on your behalf. If you choose a generator maintenance agreement, we will provide that information as well so your system is protected after installation. Our goal is to make the process simple: one specialized team, one clear schedule, and no surprises.

What makes GenCo different from a general electrician?

Generators are not a side service for us — they are what we do every day. GenCo Generators specializes in standby generator installation, service, repairs, and maintenance, which gives our team the experience to properly size, place, install, and support your generator system.

Unlike many general electrical contractors, GenCo is fully licensed for both gas and electrical work. That allows one specialized team to manage the complete turnkey installation instead of handing pieces of the project off to multiple companies. This helps reduce delays, improve accountability, and give homeowners more confidence in the final installation.

What makes a good generator installation different from a bad one?

A good generator installation starts long before the unit is set in place. It begins with a proper site assessment, safe and code-compliant placement, accurate generator sizing, and a clear plan for gas, electrical, permits, inspections, and startup. The installing company should be licensed, insured, manufacturer certified, and capable of completing the entire job without relying on outside subcontractors.

A bad installation often comes from cutting corners: cheap materials, poor placement, improper gas or electrical work, or installers who are not certified to perform warranty service. GenCo uses quality installation materials and professional-grade components because your standby generator needs to work when the grid does not.

How do I know what size generator I need?

The right generator size depends on what you want to power during an outage, including HVAC, kitchen appliances, well pumps, lighting, refrigeration, medical equipment, and other essential circuits. At GenCo Generators, we perform a precise load calculation to determine the correct standby generator size for your home.

You should never rely on a guess based only on square footage or a quick glance at your breaker panel. A properly sized whole-home generator protects your home more reliably, avoids unnecessary overspending, and helps ensure the system performs correctly during an outage.

Do I need permits or inspections for a generator installation?

Yes. Permits are required for standby generator installation, and inspections are an important part of making sure the work is safe, code-compliant, and properly documented. A whole-home generator involves both electrical and fuel-related work, so it is important to hire a contractor who understands the full scope.

GenCo is licensed for both gas and electrical work, allowing one team to manage the installation from start to finish. That means fewer handoffs, fewer delays, and one company responsible for the complete system.

How much does a whole-home generator cost?

The cost of a whole-home standby generator depends on several factors, including the size of the generator, your home’s electrical load, fuel source, installation location, permitting requirements, flood zone considerations, HOA approvals, and the complexity of the gas and electrical work.

Because every home is different, GenCo does not believe in one-size-fits-all pricing. Instead, we provide a free in-home assessment and load calculation so you receive accurate options based on your home, your needs, and your expectations. We also offer generator financing options for qualified homeowners.

Do you install Generac and Kohler generators?

Yes. GenCo Generators installs and services leading standby generator brands, including Generac and Kohler. As a Generac Premier Dealer, we have extensive experience with Generac whole-home generator systems, installation requirements, maintenance, warranty support, and service needs.

We also work with Kohler standby generators for homeowners who prefer that option or already have a Kohler system installed. You can learn more about our Generac generator services and Kohler generator services.

What is the difference between generator warranty and generator maintenance?

Generator maintenance is preventative service. It is similar to a checkup: we inspect, test, and service your standby generator to help make sure it is ready to run when the power goes out. Preventative maintenance typically includes checking key components, testing operation, and changing the oil annually.

Warranty coverage is different. A warranty generally applies to qualifying repairs caused by a manufacturer or installation defect while the unit is still within the warranty period. For example, replacing a battery when it wears out is maintenance; replacing a covered starter that fails under warranty may be a warranty repair.

Preventative maintenance is also required by the manufacturer to help keep your warranty valid. You can learn more about our generator maintenance and preventative service.

Why do I need scheduled generator maintenance?

Scheduled generator maintenance helps make sure your standby generator is ready before the next outage, storm, or extended power interruption. Your generator sits outside year-round through heat, humidity, salt air, insects, rodents, and severe weather, so routine service is an important part of protecting your investment.

During maintenance, GenCo checks the system, tests operation, looks for signs of wear or damage, and helps catch small issues before they become larger repairs. Preventative maintenance also helps keep manufacturer warranty coverage valid. Learn more about our generator maintenance plans.

What happens if my generator has a problem?

If your generator has a problem, GenCo can dispatch a service technician to diagnose the issue and get the system back online. If you are on our maintenance plan, we may know there is a problem before you do because we monitor the unit for you.

Whether you contact us first or we alert you, our team will help determine the next step, schedule service, and resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Visit our generator repairs and service page for more information.

Do you offer generator financing?

Yes. GenCo Generators offers generator financing options for qualified homeowners, making it easier to protect your home with a whole-home standby generator without paying the full project cost upfront.

Financing can help homeowners move forward before the next storm season, preserve savings, and choose the generator system that fits their home’s needs. You can learn more on our generator financing page.
